I am not
the biggest fan of short stories but once in a while a bundle of them makes
their way into my life and as a total reading addict I will give it a fair
chance. “The Lion’s binding oath and other stories” was a welcome change from my staple diet of
crime fiction novels.

Written by
Ahmed Ismail Yusuf raised as a nomad in Somalia that turned into a brilliant
author. The stories are written in the
most beautiful almost poetic language – descriptive and almost musical. The
smell, tastes and people of Somalia is vividly portrayed in all it’s colour and
lively culture.

The horrid
sounds of war are never too far in the background. The stories range from the
almost ordinary life with soccer, family and social events to the harrowing
reality of war at it’s worst. “The vulture has landed” has left me in tears –
the story of the sisters will never leave my memory. My favorite story however is the title story
that has a touch of magic realism and a beautiful positive ending to this book
that through the horrors of war leaves us with the wonder of the resilience of
the people of Somalia in rebuilding their country.

I found the very small typeface a bit uncomfortable
but it takes only a story or two to adjust your eyes. Not always an easy read
it is however extremely interesting and a beautiful piece of prose. For
something different and culturally enriching I would certainly recommend this
book.

My verwagtinge was dus baie groot vir haar nuutste
identifikasie moeilik is.
daar baie meer agter hierdie moorde skuil as bloot ‘n reeksmoordenaar.

groot. 'n Vrou na my hart.
karkaterontwikkeling by haar is groot.
was nie net genoem nie.
absoluut meesterlik.
sekteleiers soos reeds in "Meetsnoer" gedoen is. Die agtergrond is
uiters interessant.
Oh the joy! As a child of the 80's I could once again relive my high school years this weekend! I could re experience the gut wrenching loss of a boyfriend with "Total eclipse of the heart", relive the garage parties with "What a feeling" from Flashdance and bop my teased hair and be "Simply the best". "Girls just wanna have fun" had a meaning all of its own as our group of "girls" had heaps of shared fun.

This weekend has been an experience second to none. While this was not my first Capital singers (it was my fourth)- it was the first one I participated in that took place in the State theater. To look back and think that this mega professional production started 3 years ago , in a church as venue with just over a hundred voices is amazing. And while it was without a doubt great to watch for those that attended I am quite sure that it was even more fun for us who was part of the show. The feeling of 3 standing ovations and two totally sold out shows is hard to put into words. Take a listen below - the whole first act is on this you tube video.

To sing your heart out is a huge joy - the music of the 80's can not be beaten. But the experience is so much more. For a weekend (and two evenings) you almost forget about the day to day things that happen in your life. You forget about the bad work stuff, the stress and the anxiety and you sing - with 649 other like minded people. The back stage fun was even more that usual this time with such a fun theme. There were make up sessions, hair do' s to die for and lots of jokes. Yes its a very busy and tough program and my feet are still killing me - but it's all worth it. It's a weekend of laughter, song and friendship. Of getting to know some school moms a little bit better and of making new friends. Of being just a small part of something so huge and so incredible.

"Wind beneath my wings" was hard - for those of us who lost loved ones to cancer and for those who won the fight. But the beauty of Capital Singers is that hand that grabs yours and hold it while you try to wipe those tears so that no one in the audience notice. As we started out my favorite was the Johnny Clegg medley - which I sang with great joy but in the end, nothing beats Toto's "Africa" and as the songs are still turning in my head it is "Africa" that is my constant earworm. As we sang the encore of "That's what friends are for" we remembered the friends we made the weekend and as we ended with "In the living years" we all knew that not only was the 80's our living years but indeed, we are living them right here, right now.

So this is why I am also returning to this little blog - the joy it sparks. We need to spark our joy in our lives constantly to counter the curve balls life throws at us. So I intend to chat here more often, but to also spark my inner joy in other ways. We as parents ( and specifically not just moms - some dads give their family their all as well) need to find ourselves or at least not totally loose ourselves as we plunge into the last frontier of raising children. Without my hubby this weekend would simply not have been possible and I do hope that I can return the gift of joy to him.

Wishing you all much joy!
You know that little meme thingy going around on Facebook where someone asks you to add a word of encouragement starting with the first letter of your name? My IRL name starts with an R and I always give them "Rejoice" as a word. Such a hugely positive word.

I have had a word of the year for the last few years. Some years have turned into quite the opposite and others have been very successful . My year of "Hope" turned out exactly that and in my year of "Brave" it was exactly what is needed. Somehow this year "Rejoice" came to me almost the moment I started thinking about a word. In fact, no other word came to me.

Most of you know that 2017 was my "Anus Horibilis" - it was hectic. This year has all the potential to be a difficult one too. But I choose to "Rejoice" and I will. As I was milling over this I found the confirmation that indeed it was the right word for the year. I saw this blog post (Written in Afrikaans) about the drought in Cape Town. Please read it if you are able to understand Afrikaans . It is all about trusting God and rejoicing at the same time.

So I will live this year and rejoice:
But you all know that my enthusiasm for books and reading is endless and brings me much joy. I always do a review of the books I read every year and it's always a popular post. So herewith- my year in books 2017.

Book of the year (English):

1."The Satanic Mechanic- Tannie Maria Mystery #2" by Sally Andrew
Absolutely delightful like the first tannie Maria book it is a mix of a murder mystery and pure South African Karoo magic with a great touch of humour and compassion. It is the most charming book! For my review read here.

2. "My grandmother sends her regards and apologies" by Fredrik Backman
Backman's magic continues with this book written with a bit of magic realism added to his usual odd and charming characters. I enjoyed it even more than "A man called Ove"

3. "Big little lies" by Liane Moriarty. A very clever and well written book that investigates so many of our daily issues. I enjoyed the play between moms and how we see this unfold every day in our own lives.

Boek van die jaar (Afrikaans):

1. "Mentje Kind van Pas-opkamp" by Irma Joubert

Lees my oorspronklike indrukke hier

Young adult book of the year/ Jeugboek van die jaar.

"Vlerke vir almal" van Marion Erskine
I am going to write this in English because although this is an Afrikaans book I truly believe this book will be translated. It is an important book for any young adult and their parents to read - to realize the world of bullying - the kind we are all unfortunately used to , but also the newer form cyber bullying our kids are living in. If you are at all able to read in Afrikaans please do so. It is a wonderful sympathetic read that brings so much insight into the world of teens.

Non fiction book of the year/ nie fiksie boek van die jaar

Book of the year translated from another language than English or Afrikaans:

"Fever at dawn" by Peter Gardos
The beautiful story of rebuilding your life as told through the eyes of 25 year old holocaust survivor Miklos. A love story of hope and survival it is a beautiful read that I strongly recommend.

I hope you enjoyed this - please let me know what your best reads were for 2017. May we all have a great reading year ahead.
I am not feeling it - at all.

I am not lying when I say that this has been a year straight out of hell. It's been hard - very hard - and the end is not in sight. The much anticipated builders holiday will not happen for me and I will have to work through it - due to circumstances out of my control. At times I am angry, at times I am sad, but mostly I try very hard to be positive. I feel as if life has spun totally out of my control and none of it is my own doing. But there has been a lot of positives that carry me through. One thing I do know - I have missed blogging!

So today I want to focus on the positives for the last part this year.

It has been a fantastic academic year for all 3 kids and I am extremely proud of all 3. I really can not make an exception for one of them - they have all 3 been stars. My mommy heart is pouring with absolute joy and pride.

Student council inaguration decor.

Our Princess was chosen for the Student council - or in the old terms - to be a prefect next year. I really did not expect this as she is in one of THOSE years with extremely strong girls in the academic, sport and cultural fields. But she made it and we are so very proud of her. Of course it means hard work next year which she will embrace and do her very best to prove that she was the right choice.

The boys had a very sucesfull Judo year and C has decided that it is his sport he wants to focus on. They also both had a very fun cricket tournament to end the year off and played in teams with wonderful team and sportsman spirit .

A really did so well with her dancing and even did her first lyrical solo with a high silver medal at the SA Dance schools championship. She has also progressed so far with her ballet that she will be on pointe shoes next year! A wonderful goal every little ballerina works for.

I have reached my reading goal of 36 books in October! It is the first time since we had kids that I have reached this goal so early in the year. In fact -most years I fall short with a book or 3. I have read so many wonderful books - expect book reviews to resume soon!

With that I hope you have a wonderful festive first weekend of December

It's been hectic and busy and crazy in our lives. I have very seldom been so happy to see Friday - and it's a wonderful long weekend to boot.

We have just <strike>survived</strike> enjoyed 9 performances of our big 4yearly school concert. It was tiring but a huge amount of fun and the children really enjoyed it. It is such a spectacular show - we sat there in total amazement as every child in the school played their part and had a bit of stage light on them. C jived on "Hard knocked life" from the musical Annie , L sang and danced to "Hooray its a Holiday" and A and "Everybody was Kong Fu fighting". It was a great feast of music, lights, dancing, bright costumes and enthusiasm. But we are extremely relieved that it is all now done and dusted and that we can have a good rest over the weekend.

Work is still crazy - actually the crazy is increasing as year end approach. This too shall pass.

L played his last cricket game of the season and did so well. He is truly a cricketer by heart. C still has a game this afternoon. A's hockey season is done and dusted and she already had two galas. I was very proud of C who also participated in the school house sport gala. The first dance competition of the season rewarded A with a high silver and a good start.

I feel that I am at the moment just working and working and managing kids - and maybe reading a bit. After so many months of great reading I have slowed down a bit . I am simply so tired that I fall asleep before reading more that a few paragraphs.

My wonderful MIL has been visiting us for the concert period and I honestly am so grateful. It help so so much to have her with us. To help keep all on track while H and I fetch and deliver kids in the evenings and cooking a wonderful meal every evening. Our freezer is also already well stocked with frozen meals lovingly made by her.

I hope you have a wonderful heritage day weekend and rest up, like we fully intend on doing.cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15788508986252339771noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8127613511850015325.post-81511390668004493402017-08-15T16:12:00.004+02:002017-08-15T16:12:46.515+02:00Van boeke wat jou hart raakKyk ons het lanklaas boeke gesels! Dis hoog tyd.

Helende liefde - Anna Penzhorn

Heiliger - Dibi Breytenbach

My tweede keuse mag dalk vreemd lyk- n krimi en ek gesels oor emosies?

It feels like survival mode all the time. Work is super hectic - I hardly have time to think. The stress is immense. Evenings are filled with school stuff, more work and at least I feel I want to read just a little bit. It's my poison of the moment - well, it's always been a saving grace but now even more. To settle my mind and relax a bit.

We are having a super hectic term - it is madness. Third term is always a busy one and this year it is even worse. It is revue year - which means each and every child is participating in a huge concert - that runs over weeks of repetitions and shows. The grade 6 kids also has the yearly adventure camp next week and as the kids are not suppose to write tests the day after a show things are condensed into weeks. This week C has so may things I can hardly keep track. A has a lot to handle too and L has a speech - which for him is possibly the most difficult of all things to handle. Thank goodness our au pair nightmare seems to be over and our new one handled most of the work for this week on Friday afternoon. But honestly I already feel I had enough. (I will tell you all about the au pair thing later)

There are test and projects oh and the very worst for me - the orals! I really do not enjoy writing them and none of my kids like doing them so it always feels like an uphill battle. I hate them! Honestly.

So now that I have that off my back, how are you all doing. And what do you hate about school work for the kids the most?cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15788508986252339771noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8127613511850015325.post-55109618293194236352017-08-04T12:30:00.001+02:002017-08-04T12:30:22.315+02:00Just to breathe

We spent the last week of the school holiday in the beautiful Karoo. It was an amazing experience and I am still struggling to come to terms with the constant noise on the building site I am spending so much time on at the moment. It was quite possibly one of my favorite family holidays ever. I just loved the simple quietness, the icy cold mornings and the total change of pace.

It is incredible how fast one adapts to the cold. The first morning there was -12degrees Celcius aroun 7 in the morning. It was freezing. The day and days in general got progressively warmer but funny enough, no one complained about the cold. A made a game of seeing how cold see could see a thermometer on.

We read, ate, played and just relaxed. It was a wonderful time in the company of great friends. Life is extremely tough at the moment and I am a bit of a mess in general. I think this time of repose may have saved my sanity. The kids just slipped into farm mode and had so much fun. The heart stone below was found by Mr L and I am keeping in on my bedside table in fond memory of a great time out for us.
The honest truth is that it is honestly one of the toughest times in my life and that I purely and simply have not found the time or energy to post. It was already tough going at work since my business partner passed away but I was left with two critical staff members with either family or health issues and days off - the one now close to two weeks (with one here in between). He honestly was sick and I feel so sorry for him but the load has been insane. I have au pair issues to add to all this - which was truly the straw to break the camel's back. I have cried and laughed and purely just disconnected in frustration. Also when I realized that my BIL and SIL will be visiting in a critical week - and was then left without the person that could help me in the office for the week.

The family visited Freedom Park amongst other places this week

They however has been the most amazing blessing to us this week. I now know that God has provided it this way as they have honestly been life savers to us. Making sure there are meals and entertaining our kids with theirs to the T. They have honestly played at being tourists in their own city. I am so hugely grateful for this. But I think it is the small things that the kids may remember most of all. Playing Lego for hours. Sharing a bed early mornings and the girls painting nails.

In other news the kids all brought home wonderful report cards - I could not be more proud of any of them. The boys spent 4 days playing cricket to start out their Winter holiday and both took more wickets than their mom could dream of. A had Lyrical dance practice and two swimming practices - so no rest for the weary. Although of course this is rest. Every single morning when I do not hear the alarm at 5:30 I crawl in deeper and close my eyes. Every evening when chores end with cleaning after dinner and not with packing school lunches is a joy. Yeah to school holidays although I am working!

So how are your school holidays going?cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15788508986252339771noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8127613511850015325.post-41942692552290993002017-06-09T13:35:00.000+02:002017-06-09T13:35:19.425+02:00Five for Friday edition 29It's been ages since I have done a five for Friday (March in fact - gosh time has flown). But let's have a quick catch up.

1. We had bookclub on Tuesday night and heavens, did Heidi that
hosted go out to the full to impress! She did a variation on a
Masterchef recipe - just look at the photo! The toadstool stem is a
caramle siss roll, the dom is coloured white chocolate filled with
chocolate mousse and with a port jelly centre and capped with a biscuit
and chocolate - all on a pistachio bed for "grass". We were all
speechless and totally in awe - and i

t tasted as good as it looked!

2. The boys' rugby team won their league and there is huge excitement about that. Mr L played the game of his life on Tuesday while C had to sit out for the last game due to a course of very necessary anti biotics. They really practiced hard and a lot. Tuesdays' game was nerve wrecking - I swear worse than Springbok rugby and they only won with 14/12.

3. We are also very proud of our A - she was selected to present the school in the Top 6 academic challenge. It is a huge confidence boost for her is a year that has been rather tough for her. Growing up and dealing with bullies and friendship is hard.

4. I have a cold - and A is also struggling. I guess it is the normal Winter bugs that are hitting us in full force. This weekend apart form learning will also have some resting.

5. Pre cooked meals (mainly done by my wonderful hubby - but some by me) is saving my sanity at the moment. It is wonderful to take out a frozen meal in the morning and know you only need to make the starch and a salad or quick veggies and have a great home cooked meal.

So, what's happening in your life? Any five for Fridays out there?

Vars nuwe stemme. Dit maak my altyd baie opgewonde as ek iets in Afrikaans ontdek wat 'n wêreld tendens is.

Op die lys was boeke soos "Animal Farm" ," Mein Kampf", "The Fountainhead", "The Unbearable lightness of being", "The Name of the Rose" en "Catch 22". Ook die klassieke werke soos "Lolita", "Where Angels fear to tread" en "Passage to India".

My grootste ontdekking was egter die werke van die Suid Amerikaanse magiese realisme skrywers soos Marquez en Allende ("One hundred years of solitude" en "The House of the Spirits") was op daardie lees lys - ai die lekkerte.

Most of you know that it has been a tough year for me. In fact I feel as if we have had a few tough years. But this one has been horrid. My leg and now having to take over a business and run it (and a super tough project that I had NO knowledge about) has been harrowing to say the least. I am exhausted and tired BUT feel that I am slowly coming into my own. Slowly starting to make sense of things. There are lots still to be done and my workload is very heavy at the moment. But I am feeling more positive and striving to make it work.

I have even been reading less but it is mostly related to being totally exhausted at the end of the day and not even reading a paragraph before sleep just overwhelms me.

All 3 the kids are writing exams as from today and the weekend has been filled with studies and cooking. My amazing husband always helps so much and we managed to fill the freezer with meals for the next 3 weeks. I also made 86 pieces of my Marie biscuit chocolate squares - 24 pieces for each of C and A classes (the moms take turns to make treats in the exam weeks) and 24 for the church bake sale - and a few for home.

The boys have one rugby match left ( their team is top of the league but they are playing the no 2 team tomorrow). C will not be playing - he is on anti biotics but L is hugely excited. The hockey season has just started and A and some of her friends have been placed in the second team because we do not have enough under 13 girls to make a team. They are struggling a bit - and it's tough to adapt from a league winning (without conceding a goal) under 11 B team to a tean that is mostly under 12's playing teams that are under 13 - but it will make them stronger. So far they had one win, one goalless draw and one 4-1 loss. She has also danced her Lyrical grade 5 exam and did well. We are all very ready for a holiday - I think maybe me more than anyone else.

So that is my world in a few sentences - so what is happening in yours? I definitely need to get back to regular blogging because I really do need the outlet.cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15788508986252339771noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8127613511850015325.post-26791736702468629222017-05-24T14:24:00.002+02:002017-05-24T15:46:08.349+02:00Poison of choiceDie Engelse het so lekker uitdrukking " your poison of choice". Vir my gaan dit oor meer as jou Merlot. Ek is mal oor 'n goeie Merlot maar sal enige dag heerlik teug aan 'n lekker Pinotage, Cabernet of Shiraz. Merlot is "my poison of choice" - maar die ander is net so heerlik. Net so is Sally Williams se amandel nougat my "poison of choice" maar enige nougat is 'n heerlike bederf.

So is boeke vir my altyd 'n lekkerte - soos rooiwyn en nougat. Maar my "poison of choice" is duidelik 'n goeie krimi.

vergeefs probeer vergeet.
Net so is die boek vir my -soos 'n geurige lemoen -
It's been hard and stressful and tough to make so many business decision on my own. To try and take over from someone that had so much more experience in life than me. To believe that I can do this. But things seem to be slowly falling into place and there is hope on the horizon.

We have not bee away the holidays or any of the long weekends - honestly with all that was going on there simply was no scope to do that. But we had fun and some wonderful days in the mix.

Easter weekend was filled with great food , good company and lots of fun.
We made candles and used up some of our old ordinary white candles and some of those millions of crayons every household has hanging around. It was great fun and came our really pretty
We went to a very special little girls' 5th birthday celebration and had wonderful My little Pony cake to fill the rest of the weekend.
My mom cooked us oxtail with samp and beans and peaches. She has not been able to cook us a meal in over 3 years with all the operations she had. It was a huge celebration that she was able to do this. She finished the meal off with her fantastic malva poeding.
As per tradition in our church we took flowers to decorate the empty cross on Easter Sunday. It was a colourful celebration of our risen Saviour.

Ek wens sy was my vriendin.

Onthou daai rooi jassie in Schindler's list?

Lees geru - 9/10 vir 'n pragtige verhaal.cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15788508986252339771noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8127613511850015325.post-76960048632166260142017-04-07T14:39:00.001+02:002017-04-07T14:40:51.643+02:00No five for Firday

Because today South Africa is protesting our president and what he has done. It seems that the protests are peaceful and structured and we all hope, maybe in vain , that something will come from this.

In my personal life I am moving through a storm of my own - my business partner passed away on Saturday. He taught me almost everything I know about the it. It is a huge loss and it is hard to deal with the sadness of a whole office and the insecurities and uncertainties we are facing. We are also trying to fill a gap in terms of work and the load of what needs to be done is huge.

The combined anxiety is driving me nuts and making me so very tired - of course struggling to sleep does not help one bit. Your thoughts and prayers will be appreciated. cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15788508986252339771noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8127613511850015325.post-13117166220337291252017-04-04T14:24:00.000+02:002017-04-04T14:24:21.194+02:00Tuesday bookday - Until Thy Wrath be PastI have written before about my love for Scandinavian writing and authors. There is a special breed of them up north in the white cold winters that form the backdrop for so many of their books. As a lot of you know my favorite genre to read is crime and mysteries. In particular I enjoy Nordic Noir - that particular brand of murder mystery that the Scandinavians do so well. A bit edgy, sometimes gory but always tension filled right to the end. I was really happy to discover a new (for me) Nordic Noir writer recently.

Until Thy Wrath be Past by Asa Larsson

Wilma Persson and Simon Kyrö disappears on a Winters day while diving in a lake in the icy weather. When the first sign of Spring comes Wilma's body is found - and Wilma makes her first visit to Prosecutor Rebecka Martinsson who starts to investigate the case with Inspector Anna-Maria Mella.

The setting is small town northern Sweden with all the usual trappings of a rural community - be it in Sweden or South Africa. The community and how it functions form the background to the story. The story is partially told by Wilma herself and constantly switched between today and the past as the intrigue around it unfolds. Larsson uses this very effectively and gives very interesting background to the Swedish, Norwegian and German Nazi occupation during World War 2.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tension and complexity of the story and it is great to see two strong female protagonists . I got the idea that it might have been beneficial to have read the others in the series (this is number 4) to fully understand the emotional complexities they are both dealing with and that impacts on the background on the story.
As with a lot of the Nordic Noir books the area forms a big part of the story as does the climate and the cold and snow. What did stand out for me about Larsson's writing is that it holds a lot more emotion than any of the other Nordic Noir books I have read up to date. She taps into and expresses the emotions of her characters and have the reader involved in the emotions leading up to and following most events in the book.

The last few mornings has been a bit, well, how will I put it? Trying? Difficult? Maybe not more than the usual, it's just that the tone has gone up that one, two notches. The same girl that now prepares their lunchboxes every evening, helps out so much and in general is the sweetest child will explode into a raging animal for a few minutes, to switch back to the sweet cuddly girl we know within another 5 minutes.

It has only been a few times now - I can count them on my one hand - but the frequency is picking up. I know it's probably hormones that are at work in full force. It is also the end of a very long first term with some late nights for the ballet concert. She has been busy. But dressing takes soooo much longer these days - even for school.

I would love to have a great loving open relationship with her but I struggle with the animal that takes over once in a while. I want to shout and scream at that animal - the only problem being that while the animal is in place she hears nothing. And then the sweet girl returns and who wants to shout at her? But geez guys - I need some advice here from those who have the been there done that teen T shirt. Help!!!!cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15788508986252339771noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8127613511850015325.post-90890704882791077132017-03-28T11:57:00.001+02:002017-03-28T14:37:26.217+02:00Dinsdag en tyd vir boeke - n lekker jeugboek vandagIf one good thing came out of my inactivity after my little accident, it is the reading. I have read more books in the last 3 weeks than what I usually read in about 2 months. So I have lots to talk about on Tuesdays, but today I start with a wonderful Afrikaans youth book - so if you are looking for a great series of books to improve your daughters' Afrikaans from about 12 (even for second langauge ) - read on.

Maasdorp was nooit my gunsteling reeks nie - seker omdat Kobie net eenvoudig nie my tipe meisie was nie - maar was Saartjie dan? Dit klink asof alles lekkerder en meer avontuurlik is in Maasdorp koshuis as by ons eie huise in voorstedelike Pretoria/Kaapstad of Johannesburg.

Gomverdorie maar dit is 'n heerlike boek!cathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15788508986252339771noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8127613511850015325.post-70371129803895394252017-03-24T13:53:00.000+02:002017-03-24T13:54:58.364+02:00Five for Friday edition 28So yes! It's Friday and the first one in a while that has a small semblance to the usual.

1. The Friday morning coffee club met for the first time in 2017 in full
numbers (we are only 3). Gosh the first term has flown past. We
generally only have coffee but this morning turned into delicious
breakfasts. It was such a great hour spent chatting and listening and
eating at our little local coffee shop. There is something to say for
one that opens before 7 am every day.

2. I got my stitches out yesterday and was promoted to one crutch and being able to drive a bit. I am so very very happy - am starting to feel relatively like myself again.

3. The rugby season started yesterday and the boys' team won their first match in a very convincing way. L made a huge tackle on a much bigger boy to his own great delight.

4. It was A's yearly ballet concert last night and the night before. It was once again spectacular and featured the most beautiful costumes. She also danced in a Spanish number for the first time. It was a lot of Saturdays and nights and extra hard work but so worth it.

5. It was world Monopoly day on Sunday and to celebrate Monopoly released the results of their Token Madness vote. I am glad to say that Scottie the dog lived to survive another round There is even a T Rex now! Tonight is Monopoly night in our home as we upgrade from the Junior version to the special edition token madness one.
