Thoughts on weekends...

You know how the weekend just sometimes flies past you. One moment it's Friday, the next it's Sunday night and you have no recollection of what you did. So I decided last Friday that I need to DO things on weekends. I am going to try to:
1. Do something for my hubby
2. Something for each of the kids
3. Something for the puppies
4. Something for someone outside of my direct family that shares my home
5. Something for the house
6. And something for myself.
Sometimes these will overlap or combine, but it is just a conscious effort to make more of the weekend. Get out of the lazy rut of just sitting around and DO things.

So, let's see how we did last weekend:
1. Do something for my hubby
He scored big-time - I gave him the whole Saturday to do some shopping for himself and spend the afternoon at the airport with his brother before he flew back to Dubai.
I also bought him a plane ticket to attend his uncle and godfather's funeral.
2. Something for each of the kids
I did a combined one for all 3 - A and I made playdough (which she enjoyed tremendously) and I took all 3 out to play with it on the patio. Due to the rain the garden is very wet and the kids crave to be outside.

She had pink playdough with purple glitter inside.

So you make holes like this!

And you press cookie cutters like this.

We all had juice and biscuits outside.

And soon the clouds came again an another storm broke loose.
3. Something for the puppies
As soon as the rain took a small break on Sunday I convinced dad that we could put the rain cover on the stroller and take them to the park. We all enjoyed it although we had to take cover in the gazebo for about 15 minutes.
4. Something for someone outside of my direct family that shares my home
I used my precious few minutes available away from the kids to shop for a stork tea for cousin Surene.
5. Something for the house
I re-packed and cleaned the one grocery cupboard (yeah, baby steps girl, baby steps!)
6. And something for myself.
This will most often be the tough one. But this weekend is easy! I got myself some Skype (long overdue) and chatted for over an hour with my friend Nanna in Calgary, Canada - we have not seen each other in 3 years! I really lifted my spirit.

So now I have to plan for this weekend - today we will do the Waggie ride for Tuesday - that will cover no 4. As fellow moms I know you do most of these automatically, the real question is - what are you going to do for yourself? Why don't you tell me?

  2. wow...great idea to break the weekend down like that! We plan to do something here for the Waggie ride too as long as the weather holds out. Its much warmer today here, but predicting rain. Having friends over tomorrow and a play date for the kids. Getting groceries...got together with some friends last night - half fun/half business. :-)

It is turning out to be a good weekend so far here (Other than the bad cold I have now!)

Enjoy what's left of the weekend!

  4. I am so impressed with all you accomplished.

We also did our Wagie ride today and explored the neighborhood. For me, it was an opportunity to spend some quality time with my kids which doesn't happen during the week!
