Our first run-in with the bugger called Croup

Yes, you've read correctly! Little man C has croup. Had him at the doctor yesterday and yes, he is coughing his lungs out. I saw our regular paediatricians partner and he also thinks he might have the beginnings of asthma. So we will be doing asthma meds for another month and the re-evaluate. Little man L is fine - apart that he sees his brother's coughing as an excuse not to sleep. And you will know that sleep is a much sought after item in the household at present - H is away to Port Elizabeth for his uncle (and godfather's) funeral - so it has been super tough on me. I am even missing bookclub tonight - bugger!

  2. So sorry about the croup, that is so nasty, and horrible on the little ones! Our son had it about 3 years ago, and he was hospitalized. I feel better now that we have a nebulizer in the house, just for emergencies. Hope he feels better soon, and you get some rest!!!
    Take care!!!

  6. OH NO!!! Poor little guy :( I can totally sympathize. I hope after the month goes by, they'll figure out that he won't need it :)

  7. Some positive thoughts: Our Darren had severe croup FIVE times in one calendar year. We went to the hospital twice, and have kept liquid steroids in the house for years. We too were on "pre-asthma" meds for a bit. We are still on nightly allergy meds.

Darren does not have asthma. Reactive airway, yes, but he has "grown out" of such pronounced respiratory reactions. (we still get a few, but NOTHING like we did...)

    Hang in there, Cat!

  8. Sorry about the croup! My 2nd oldest had it A LOT as a baby/todler and he spent a lot of time in the hospital because of it. Strangely enough he never developed asthma though.
    Hang in there!
