It's all in the timing people!

So this is the Princess this morning on her way to school - dressed like Mary, she says. No other biblical character will do although Princes Esther was a thought.Cute, I hear you say. They are all dressed like people form the Bible today and they are having a foods from the Bible and Easter meal today. Great idea and I really support it - apart from the fact that we got the note asking us to dress them  and send a plate of Biblical foods (ie figs, pomegranate, pita bread, grapes etc) to school  when I picked her up at 4:45 yesterday afternoon after I have been to the shops.

This is really the first time that her school have had me upset due to late planning. It shows no consideration towards working moms and every mom that picked up her kids yesterday afternoon commented on the late notice.

Well, I decided not to buy stuff and to make do with what I have at home - she dressed in a tunic of mine and a kikoi for a scarf. For the meal, I managed to dig our some dates and I had olives and sugared figs in the fridge. And really, this has to do. If they expect more, gosh, give us a bit of notice. Even the morning would have been fine.

  1. I must say I am super glad our dress up things are minimal - in fact I think we have 2 a year!! I couldn't do the amount you guys do - even with fore warning!

She does look uber cute though!

  2. For someone unprepared, you did an awesome job! She looks great.

If it had been me, I think I have some frozen pita breads in the freezer. that's it :)

But I'm also like that - we will just have to make do!

  5. They also get a thumbs down for the late notice! But I love what the school is doing! Very creative stuff, and I am sure the kids enjoy it very much! The Princess looks very cool!
You managed to dig up quite a bit, I think ;-)

  6. That is really rude. We have volunteer moms to plan parties like that in the classroom. I am one of them and it works alot better that way:-)

  7. That is LATE notice. Love the idea. She goes to a private school, right?

  8. Angie, difficult to explain if you do not know the South African system, but let's suffice with semi-private. In South Africa we (thank goodness) still have the choice to practice Christianity in our ordinary schools.

  9. She looks perfect! And i'm sure the food would have been fine (i always have frozen pita's in the freezer, perhaps you should try that!). But yup, schools do not think of working moms/and in our case, families who liveout of town. So often, before Daniella boarded in town, we would miss out on something. Such a pain. But i'm pleased to hear that at least they are practising Christian school - way to go!

  10. The 'stuff' you threw together is perfect in my opinion. Your little girl makes a very pretty Mary :)

  11. The Afrikaans schools seem to be more in tune with a Christian education - although our boys are in a Catholic school - so they have too.

  14. That would really annoy the hell out of me. Least they could do is give you a bit of notice. If Nicola's school pulled something like that on short notice they'd end up eating cheese and holy marie biscuits from my house.
