Two for Two-sday - 2 year check-up x 2

Playing along with Debi as per usual and if she will excuse me, I am taking my liberties a bit. I have a very special two-some report today but in searching for unpublished pictures of my little two-some, came upon this adorable three-some. But off course, this post is all about the two little tykes.

The boys had their 2 year check-up at the Paediatrician yesterday. I am happy to report that in general all is well.

Little Man C:

Length: 87 cm (34.3 inches) 37th percentile
Head circumference: 49 cm (19.3 inches) 75th percentile
Weight: 11,75 kg (25,9 pounds) 30th percentile
Teeth: 18. Only 2 to go -yeah!

The doc is very happy with his growth as he continues on his curve. His asthma is well under control and we will keep him on the chronic meds for another year and on 3 years see if we can wean him off as the suspicion is now overwhelming that his asthma is paediatric asthma and not allergy induced, although the cat allergy does aggravate the situation.

His speech is well ahead of the target - she was quite impressed with his sentences (up to 5 words) and the speed at which he is learning language. His gross motor skills are on target as well as his fine motor skills.

He once again sported the beginnings of an ear infection (we have been lucky with this one for a while) She gave him some meds and once this is cleared up we will re-look the ear situation.

Little Man L:

Length: 84 cm (33 inches) 10th percentile
Head circumference: 48 cm (19 inches) 75th percentile
Weight: 10,5 kg (23 pounds) 5th percentile
Teeth: 17. Only 3 to go - another yeah!

We were very worried about his size - the difference between the two is growing all the while and is really visible. The doc though, is happy with his growth as he is continuing on his curve. Off course, we had an emergency rush to the GP and he currently has bronchiolitus and tonsillitis (again - no 7 for the year), so we had the tonsils etc discussion with her following on the ENT specialist's advice. She also thinks we need to consider the tonsils, but agrees with us that she sees nothing wrong with his ears and that a second opinion might be a good idea. We have one scheduled for next week. He will stay on his allergy meds for the next 6 months.

She is happy with his speech although he is not quite as far as his brother, he is well ahead. His gross motor skills are almost on target, in fact, she says she is very happy with his progress. His fine motor skills are still exceptional for his age.

I am still absolutely surprise that my boys are so small. We are big people and their height projections are both below mine. This apparently does not happen often - boys are almost always taller than their moms, so they might still have a growth spurt in future.

In a summary, a very comforting appointment and we hope to have a healthier year. We might have grommets and tonsils in terms of operations ahead for us, but all will be fine.

  3. Your boys are adorable! It's great that they're doing well. My son often gets tonsilitis too and the ENT doctor also discussed the possibility of removing his tonsils. We're currently waiting if he'll get another tonsilitis this year. Of course, I'm hoping he doesn't have to go through a tonsillectomy.
