I promise...

this will not merely become a book blog. But in the same breath I am going to talk books again today, well a book. Because I read the last couple of words of "The little Coffee Shop of Kabul" last night and enjoyed it so much that I want to share it here right now. I really fell that I have been blessed beyond words with book choices this year. This one was a Mothersday gift. I geve it 4 and a half out of 5 stars
What a lovely book - warm, intriguing, never slow. Beautifully descriptive , almost visual. Filled with the power of love and friendship across boundaries. On the cover a reviewer said " As if Maeve Binchy had written The Kite runner. I would like to disagree and say its more as if Sinaed Moriarty with her wonderful insight into female friendship and descriptive love for a country and its people had written A Thousand splendid suns- featuring the plight of Afghan women. Do read it! Although a lot of the subject matter is heavy the book is light and fresh as a read.

So go ahead. Read it! And if you have please tell me what you thought about is

  1. I first watched (about a half hour of the Kite Runner) and then I it was too horrifying for me to watch more. It may have been something to do with pregnancy hormones. Last year I decided to read the book. It was hard to read but it was really an entertaining and thought provoking read. So I promptly read A thousand Splendid Suns. It made me think more about being a mother and the kind of person I have become with the opportunities I have had...how much we are molded by our upbringing and environment. I am not sure if I would have accepted my role as the submissive sex or would I have fought against it? I do not know.
    Try some Amy Tan.
I will stick "The little coffee shop of Kabul" on my reading list.

    2. Read this last weekend, after seeing your review. A very well written book, lightly touching on those serious heart wrenching topics, without making you want to have a cry.
I think some people may feel she glossed over very serious subject matter.

  3. You are the ONLY blogger who recommends books that I usually LOVE. Shayne too! Am definitely going to get this one and The Rosie Project.
