What's comfortable dressing after all?

So this morning I am dressed in jeans and a fancy Tshirt - with pretty sandals. Purely because I am going to be on site for most of the day when I will switch the sandals for safety shoes and don a neon safety vest over my shirt. This morning a mom at school said "Look how comfortable you are dressed for work - and looking smart too. Wish I could dress that way for work". I guess it is a compliment but somehow it took me to those magazine articles with celebrity moms that are dressed in gorgeous evening dresses for the photos and always mention that they are most comfortable in their jeans and Tshirts taking the kids to school/relaxing at home/ walking the dog. And google it - the amount of images of celebrities relaxing in jeans with kids/dogs etc are endless - no really. I googled Angelina Jolie in jeans and a Tshirt with kids and a whole sea of images appeared.

I am certainly no Angelina Jolie but my point actually is just that jeans and a Tshirt is anything but comfortable - especially in this heat! Maybe in mid winter if the jean is nice and worn in and the Tshirt soft with age, yes. But I nearly died of heat on site today - the sun seems to be out to burn as all to death soon - even more in hot jeans and sleeves on a Tshirt.

No, what defines comfort for me at work in this heat is a nice pretty summer dress - I am way more comfortable in it and much much cooler. On weekends it's longer shorts or  three quarter pants and a sleeveless Tshirt - or a cool summer dress. If pants is a must for work I have smart styled three quarter pants or soft thin pants. But jeans .... no. Why is it so iconic for comfort if one has to admit that comfort in not no 1 - unless of course it's just because I am carrying a bit more weight than I should. Or I have not yet found the perfect jeans. All I know is that I am particularly less comfortable than usual.

But be honest girls - who does find jeans the no. 1 in comfort? And always if so? And if not so what is your idea of comfort? For the office too -not just yoga pants at home?

  1. i LIVE in my dresses. my jeans are great, but only in winter when long pants are a must - otherwise it's skirts and dresses all the time. way more airy in summer!

  2. When I worked on site on a daily basis for two years, I got very used to wearing jeans, even in the heat. So for most of my twenties I did wear jeans on a regular basis and found them comfy. Now in my thirties, I only wear jeans in winter and die of heat in them in Summer. Perhaps it is an age and weight thing.

  3. I love jeans!!! I wear them most of the time but in summer it is shorts - the joys of working from home :-)
I don't feel comfortable in dresses, physically maybe but I just dont feel right. But I do live in PE and the wind is a bit of a problem, it tends to come up when least expected.

    2. maybe it's the wind?! I have only got into dresses in the last few years, and that is solely due to the extreme Jhb heat. I never wore dresses in PE :)

  4. In winter I love jeans but most days I wear dresses or skirt and top, nothing tight around the mid life belly!

  5. Currently, it's jeans and shorts for me. But I do want another dress and skirt - konmari has depleted my wardrobe, and finding just the right items that I love is hard.

  6. I'm pretty comfortable in jeans...or cargo pants...or any pants really. I am never comfy in a dress. Never.

  7. For work these days, my most comfortable outfits are always pants and a sleeveless tank under a short sleeved jacket. I found some palazzo pants at Pick and Pay, bought two and they are the best. I chose very subtle patterns that still look good in corporate with a black or navy jacket.

At home, I'm wearing loose, sleeveless dresses or tops.

But really, I'm just waiting for autumn, and then winter!

  8. I love love love my jeans. Everytime one gets too old and I have to buy a new pair, it takes me forever to find the perfect pair again. For site I find they are best because I have ruined too many nice pants and shirts on site. Also, I can comfortably climb were I want to with confidence.
I look at the pretty Mom's in their skirts and shirts and lovely shoes and I think I wish it was practical for me to dress like that for work.

  9. I'm so lucky that I can dress casually at the office so sometimes what I wear at the weekend is what I wear at work also. Today I'm wearing 3/4 pants, a Billabong t-shirt and Reebok slip-on shoes. But then it is sometimes nice to dress up a bit for work but then everyone asks if I'm going for an interview ;-). Jeans are soooooo not comfortable. And then I look at the young girls who look like they've had their jeans painted on. How on earth do they do it

  11. For me, leggings with longer tops are the most comfy and can easily be dressed up or down.

  12. I love jeans and have found my perfect one but happily trade it for cotton/linen loose fitted pants in summer or shorts on weekends.

  13. Since gaining weight comfy dressing is so tough... I never quite feel comfortable...need to find my go to! Apparently pjs aren't appropriate

  14. As a transplant to CA I'd say 3/4 pants that hit at or just below the knee in summer. I like the long cotton skirts too. All winter I wear jeans but in the summer or on some warm spring days they're way too warm.

  15. Love my jeans! But yes, this past summer whenever I thought it was safe to wear my jeans to work, the sun would instead do a solar flare surprise on me.I then always question how the dickens men survive summer in their long pants/ jeans! My ripped boyfriend style jeans though, with their built in air vents can still be quite comfy in summer.
